The ALT-9000 delivers highly accurate altitude simulation using true RF time delay and path loss modelling, enabling comprehensive testing of all radio altimeter formats, including Low Probability of Intercept (LPI), Combined Altitude Radar Altimeter (CARA), and next-generation systems. Its intuitive graphical touchscreen interface provides clear control and real-time visibility of key parametric measurements such as transmit power, frequency, FM deviation, sweep rate, pulse width, and pulse repetition frequency (PRF).
Designed as a portable flight line test set, the VIAVI ALT-9000 leverages fibre optic delay technology to ensure compatibility with all types of radio altimeters. It supports complete end-to-end system testing, allowing operators to accurately isolate faults to specific components such as the antenna, coaxial cabling, line replaceable units (LRUs), or indicators—reducing unnecessary component replacements and minimizing downtime.
The system performs full closed-loop testing under realistic, in-flight conditions, enabling precise performance validation. It also supports the creation of dynamic altitude simulation profiles, covering a range from 5 ft to 10,000 ft in fine 5 ft increments. An extended range option further enhances capability with discrete altitude simulations at 16,000 ft and 25,000 ft, ensuring flexibility for advanced testing requirements.
